Do-It-Yourself Oatmeal Body Scrub

Did you know that oatmeal is one of the best natural treatments for dry skin? That’s right, oatmeal is not reserved just as a breakfast meal. A bowl of oatmeal is good for your heart, will help reduce your cholesterol, and might even help you lose a bit of weight. However, oatmeal has some surprising external benefits which help with:

  • Skin inflammations
  • Skin diseases such as: itchiness, dryness, oiliness, mild eczema, and contact dermatitis

Oatmeal is a great multi-purpose skin care treatment which will help to relieve your dry skin, and restore your skin’s natural moisture properties.  Try this oatmeal body scrub recipe out, it may not offer long-term relief, but it should offer some immediate relief.

You’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar
  •  2 tablespoons ground oats (you can find oats at any supermarket, Target or Wal-Mart)
  • 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel (you can find this at any discount drug store)
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of grape seed oil (if you can’t find grape seed oil, you may use olive oil)

Preparation:

  • Grind the oatmeal in a coffee grinder or food processor, not too fine (you don’t want it to be like powder), sort of like the consistency of sand
  • Combine and mix all ingredients
  •  Apply on moist skin after a shower
  • Gently massage the skin (in a circular motion) with fingertips
  • Leave on for skin for 3-5 minutes, you don’t want the paste like consistency to totally dry
  • Rinse the skin with warm water

You skin should immediately feel baby smooth.
